The MOB2 personal AIS radio beacon complies with Class M which according to regulation ECC/DEC/(22)02 from 01/01/25 is mandatory for all EU-flagged vessels.
If a vessel has an AIS personal beacon on board that does not comply with Class M, it can continue to use it, it is not obligatory to change it, but all new beacons put on board from 01/01/25 must comply with Class M.
Currently, MOB2 is one of the few personal AIS beacons that are Class M compliant and have DGMM approval with certificate of approval 630021.
The important new feature of MOB2 is that it has a DSC receiver installed, so that when the DSC signal it has emitted has been received then it stops emitting. This solves a major problem on the VHF channels. Another feature of the MOB2 is that it can be programmed by mobile phone via the OCEAN SIGNAL app. The size remains the same as the successful MOB1, making it the most compact beacon on the market.
